Company Profile

Capital Aviation has been serving the aviation community for over 35 years.
We began as a small general aviation instrumentation repair facility in Alexandria Virginia. Today based at Manassas Regional Airport, Capital Aviation is a thriving Full Service Aviation Maintenance Facility. Our capabilities include one of the largest and most capable Avionics Installation and Repair Centers in the Mid Atlantic Area as well we offer Complete Interior Refurbishment and our Airframe Maintenance capabilities from single engine aircraft up through Corporate Jets. Operating as a FAA Part 145 Repair Station with EASA Certification also, you can be assured our experienced management and technical staff is among some of the best in the industry.

We possess extensive on-site repair and overhaul capabilities for many types of flight instruments (including most attitude and directional gyros, etc.), engine instruments and aircraft systems indicators see list.

Our avionics repair department is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and training to quickly diagnose and resolve radio and radar problems. Our mobile units are regularly dispatched to Washington's nearby Dulles International and Reagan National airports to provide plane-side services for resident and transient aircraft. We offer a large inventory of certified, serviceable instruments and avionics components available for exchange and immediate installation or shipment.

Our highly experienced installations and upgrades staff includes both professional pilots and skilled technicians. They are familiar with your aircraft and the remarkable products available for today's cockpits and are eager to provide consultation and advice regarding the myriad options available. We represent virtually all major manufactures and brands to provide our customers with the best choices and values for their needs and budgets.

Mangement Team

Pat Colgan is President of Capital Aviation Instruments and Avionics. He has spent most of his career in the field of commercial aviation. He purchased Capital Aviation Instrument Corp in early 1999, added avionics to the product and service mix and remains personally involved in guiding Capital's growth into the business and regional aviation markets. Until recently, Pat also served as Director of Purchasing for Colgan Air, a U.S. Airways Express, United Express and Continental Connection carrier. Pat's expertise and management skills, honed in the commercial aviation sector, are leveraged at Capital as well; adding best-in-class capabilities and services at competitive prices.

Tim Fogle is Technical Services Director and joined Capital Aviation in January 1999. Before coming to Capital Aviation, he was the avionics manager at Piedmont Hawthorne in Leesburg, VA. Tim began his career in avionics with the military supervising aircraft maintenance and avionics repair operations. Upon leaving the military, Tim completed the Aeronautics Associates Degree program in Specialized Technology (Avionics) at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He also holds an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License with radar endorsement and an FAA Repairman Certificate.


Tom Kellett is Manager of the Instrument and Test Equipment Certification Shop. His career in aviation spans over 37years. His aircraft instrument systems experience includes service with the US Air Force and more than twenty-seven years at Capital. He has completed numerous specialized training programs including those offered by the FAA Academy and various aircraft and systems manufacturers such as Gulfstream and Bendix King. He continues enhancing his technical education and qualifications in areas such as RVSM and precision instrument systems. Tom has received the FAA Aviation Mechanic Safety Award in recognition of his uncompromising dedication to aviation safety. He holds an FAA Repairman Certificate with instrument and airframe qualifications.

Mike Colgan Jr. (Mikey) Director of Sales and Customer Service. Mikey grew up in the aviation industry working for the families airline Colgan Air, the family sold the airline in 2007 and Mikey joined Capital Aviation. He spent much of his airline career overseeing the dispatch operations of the company and dealing with the daily AOG Maintenance and scheduling issues. With these experiences Mikey understands the critical nature of getting the aircraft back in the air as safe and as soon as possible. His commitment to customer service and satisfaction assure our customers are treated like family.

Kress Latham Director of Airframe Maintenance. Kress has spent the majority of his 17 years in managing and maintaining corporate jets. Kress can manage all of your corporate aircraft needs from Record Keeping and TBO Tracking to Phase Inspections and Daily Squawks. His vast experience ranges from Cessna Citations, Westwinds and Astra's to Hawker 800 and the Falcon series jets and many others. After spending 12 years as a Senior Vice President and partner of a large aircraft management company Kress has mastered the skills of Aircraft Management and Maintance to ensure that your corporate aircraft is maintained to the highest standard.

Less Williams - Manager - Interior Refurbishment and Completions. With over 25 years of experience in the interior refurbishment industry, Less is a True Master Craftsmen. Whether his group is mass producing seat covers for an airline or a complete custom interior refurbishment from private aircraft to corporate jets, his attention to detail and high standards of satisfaction ensure that Less will take your aircrafts interior from First Class to World Class!

Technical Team

Currently, our technical staff is comprised of seventeen highly skilled and experienced technicians and supervisors. Of these individuals, nine possess FAA Repairman, Mechanic and/or Airman certificates. Factory training, state-of the art test equipment, continuing technical education and real world knowledge and experience combine to solve real world problems quicker.
